First of all, what is with this weather? I think I jinxed it a couple of weeks back when I said we were getting snow… because let me tell ya’- there’s still no snow. It’s Minnesota for goodness sake! I saw this morning that parts of CALIFORNIA had snow. What?! I never thought I’d say this… but… I miss the snow. I miss it dearly. Fingers crossed for a white Christmas this year, even if it’s a only an inch or two of white.
There are a few perks that come along with having a “warmer” winter. Not having to warm up your car for the ice to melt, not worrying about slippery roads… not having to eliminate ice cream from your late night repertoire.
The number of exciting ice creams and gelatos out there these days is fascinating. The other night I had raspberry and cream gelato that had real fruit in it and it was so good. But you don’t have to have fancy gelatos on hand in order to have a decedent late night frozen treat.
Like how about Crazy for Crust’s luxurious peanut butter ice cream sauce? A little vanilla ice cream, crushed peanuts and some of this peanut butter sauce?! Oh my goodness that would be perfectly salty, sweet and everything in-between.
Or what about Mom on Timeout’s strawberry sauce? You could easily substitute whatever fruit you have on hand in place of the strawberries. Or heck, use whatever frozen fruit you have in the ice box! There are no limits on simple recipes like this one.
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you chocolate lovers out there. Do you guys remember having magic shell sauce when you were younger? I know I do. And I know I absolutely loved the stuff. Chef in Training’s homemade magic shell sauce takes a turn using coconut oil, making it a little more of an “adult” topping, if you ask me. Top this with some sea salt flakes and oh my goodness, you’d have a winner.
I hope these ice cream ideas inspire you guys to reach for the freezer next time you’re looking for a late night snack. If all goes well ice cream season will end soon here, but not before you have a chance to try one of these delicious sauces!
